CUSTOMISED KID ITEMS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN

The Children and Leisure's ProductsTechnological Institute (AIJU) is investigating a manufacturing system to customise kid items in a fast and effective way. It is addressed to motor disabled children mainly. The project is based on the combination of digitalization, design and rapid manufacturing. Tests have proved that the items increase both stability and comfort, allowing the interaction with the immediate environment and / or the quality of the play time of children.

In order to identify the prior custom requirements, AIJU has carried out a descriptive survey study with the support of CEAPAT. It showed that 88% of parents / tutors of motor disabled children appreciated the improvement in the quality of life of these children and their childminders thanks to customised items. The most outstanding items were riding toys, pelvis seats and tricycles.

Researchers have used rapid manufacturing techniques developed within the framework of the Project Custom-Fit. AIJU obtained the award “Better Award to European Innovation 2009", awarded by the Valencia Regional Government.
